DOER AMP Grant of $2.5 Million Awarded to Braintree!

The Town of Braintree has been awarded $2.5 million through the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources’ (DOER) Advancing Massachusetts Power (AMP) Energy Storage Grant Program to support energy resilience at the Braintree Department of Public Works (DPW). Thank you to State Representative and Chair of the Joint Committee on Telecommunications, Utilities, and Energy, Mark Cusack, for his support of this important investment in Braintree’s energy resilience.

The grant will support a battery energy storage project at the DPW facility, helping strengthen the Town’s ability to maintain critical municipal operations. The infrastructure is intended to strengthen energy resilience and help critical municipal facilities prepare for power outages and severe weather events.

“In Braintree, our residents and businesses have long benefited from the reliability of local power, and innovation has always been part of our identity,” said Mayor Erin V. Joyce. “Our partnership with BELD dates back to the 1800s, founded by none other than Thomas Edison. He recognized, and we continue to prove, that Braintree is an ideal place to pilot new ideas and advance emerging technology. Grants like this one help us plan for the future by providing real resources to bring these projects to life. We especially value initiatives that drive innovation and strengthen community sustainability.”

This grant will allow Braintree to build out power reliability in the form of a battery storage system alongside two of the Town’s most critical municipal departments – DPW and the Police Department.

The award is part of a statewide investment of more than $40 million announced by the Healey-Driscoll Administration on September 18, 2026, to support energy storage projects, improve the reliability of critical facilities, and advance energy resilience across Massachusetts.

The Town of Braintree appreciates the Commonwealth’s investment in local infrastructure and its support for efforts to strengthen the reliability of essential municipal services.
