Update on Braintree’s Logan Express Garage Expansion
On August 10, Mayor Erin V. Joyce welcomed Massachusetts Transportation Secretary Phillip Eng and Massport CEO Richard Davey to Braintree to discuss Massport’s planned Logan Express garage expansion project. This project will create 5,500 parking spaces and a secure check-in facility for travelers to Logan Airport, right here in Braintree at the current Logan Express site. Along with Representative Mark Cusack, Senator Bill Driscoll, Senator John Keenan, Council President Peter Morin, District 1 Councilor Jim Diaute, and other members of the state and local team, we walked the Route 37 / Forbes Road intersection to review traffic improvement needs before the new facility begins operations.
While the Town supports this exciting regional transit option and looks forward to spinoff economic growth, we must protect safety and traffic flow for our residents and local drivers. We walked the corridor together to emphasize why critical traffic mitigation must be completed before the new facility opens, not years after. We also discussed potential long-term solutions that need consideration now, like new highway on- and off-ramps.
